Keeping Teeth White

Keeping whiter teeth is possible by simple measures and following the guidelines below. This will ensure that teeth do not need tooth whitening so frequently.

Tobacco in either smoke form or chewing form will stain teeth, so avoiding smoke should be a number one priority to keep teeth shiny and white, not to mention the huge health benefits this will have and the extra money. Drinks such as Coffee, cola and tea also cause staining of the teeth. Even fruit juices and red wine can increasing discolouration. Other substances such as blueberries, curry and soy sauce will also contribute. One solution if you still want to partake in these drinks is to use a straw, this will reduce your teeth to the drink, also make sure to drink these drinks in short intervals rather than throughout the day as this will reduce the impact that the liquids have on the color of your teeth.

Avoid abrasive toothpaste as although these may have a short term effect of making your teeth look better they are actually wearing away the enamel, which will lead to worse looking teeth in the long run. One thing which does occur and which cannot be easily mitigated is that the older we get the more stained our teeth become, as the enamel which is on the outside of our teeth gets thinner as we get older, so the dentin which is below can be seen more easily (it is more yellow in color).

Trauma and blows to the teeth not only can cause problems such as chipping but also can lead to the death of the nerve within the tooth, this will then give the tooth a poor color which can vary from black to brown, if this occurs then what is required is to do some internal teeth whitening to get the color back

Fluoride helps to protect teeth, particularly in kids and teens, so much so that many locations already add fluoride to the water. It can be useful to find out whether the water supply is fluoridated as if it is then it is probably not necessary to use a toothpaste with fluoride in it very often.

Make sure to keep track of any pains that are felt in your teeth, you may have sensitive teeth or it may be the precursor to a dental problem which could cause staining and discolouration of the teeth, talk to your dentist if you have worries.

Follow the steps in oral hygiene with respect to keeping the mouth clean and teeth should stay better looking for longer.
