Internal Teeth Whitening
Internal teeth whitening may be required. This is necessary when there is staining of the dentin within the tooth. Referring back to the
teeth structure for more information, basically below the enamel which is the topmost layer there is dentin which can be damaged due to cavities or other problems within the teeth, for example a root canal on teeth can darken the teeth. Note though that it can be that the darkening is due to a bacterial infection which needs to be sorted out before any whitening is applied, it is best to consult with your dentist first, to see what is the best course of action. In this case internal bleaching can be used to improve the appearance of the teeth which are resistant to standard teeth whitening techniques. If the teeth still do not appear to be white enough then a thin layer of a composite material may be put on the front of the teeth, then a blue light is used to cure the layer and thus the discoloration is covered. As an alternative to this a veneer could be used on the problem. This procedure may be used in conjunction with standard tooth whitening to give the desired effect. The process should not hurt as the procedure should only be done on teeth which have had the blood vessels and nerves removed. If you are considering having root canal it may be prudent to combine it with internal teeth whitening as otherwise the root canal could end up leading to having darkened and discolored teeth.
Process
- Hole is drilled into each effected tooth
- Whitening product is put inside the darkened teeth
- The teeth are then sealed up
- After a short time period, average a week, the product within the teeth is removed
- The teeth are filled with white filling
