Home Teeth Whitening

Home teeth whitening, comes in 4 main forms:

Note that you should not use a teeth whitening kit if you are nursing or pregnant, also if you have poor health of the dental variety, for example, exposed roots, disease of the gum, jaw problems or recently had surgery or you wear braces.

Natural teeth whitening

If you want to go for natural home teeth whitening then there are various products such as lemon juice or baking soda, which can be used to improve the look of teeth temporarily but generally they are not good for the long term health of your teeth, these are more fully outlined on the natural teeth whitening page.

Toothbrush whitening

This is where instead of a normal toothpaste being used one which whitens is being used. Unfortunately this form of product only cleans it does not whiten the teeth, they do not contain bleaching ingredients so will not have a large effect.

Teeth whitening strips

These are very simple to use, just stick them on your teeth and wait. No preparation is required. Unfortunately they do not work so well because teeth are not flat so the strips tend not to stick on the whole teeth and will not necessarily give an even color. Crest provides whitening strips, some have found success with them.

Bleaching gel tray

This is the favourable alternative to professional teeth whitening, although this home teeth whitening solution does take longer than the other alternatives and does take more effort, the results are many more shades of white better than the two above. There are many different manufacturers such as Opalescence or Rembrandt, more important is to look at specific product reviews as well as following the checklist below when buying a specific product.
