A study was conducted in 2007 which indicated that having whiter teeth would improve success in work and love. The research was conducted by Kelton Research. It encompassed three studies. The first (simulated job interview) and second study (simulated date) were done at Loyola Marymount University in LA. Independent evaluators checked subjects pre and post usage of an home kit tooth whitener. A representative sample of 8 randomly selected participants took part. The people doing the employment evaluation were either working in human resources or were suitably accredited. These studies found that 58% of the studies participants were more likely to be hired and 53% more likely to get a larger salary, post teeth bleaching, Also during the simulated date over half of the participants had a greater interest in continuing the dating. It was also found that study participants were generally found to be more professional, confident and outgoing.

The third study was a survey which was initiated via an email invitation to an online survey. A representative cross section of the population was selected, the survey encompassed 1006 people. The results were similar to the previous two studies, then people with the brighter whiter teeth were given improves attributes and qualities than those people who had stains on their teeth and discoloration. The follow variables all saw improvements with teeth whitening; trustworthiness, professional success, financial success.

Having whiter teeth will tend to give self image benefits as appearance is improved. Given that people gain most impression from someone's appearance from the facial region.
